Server not detecting external hard drives
I have a client with 2 MyBooks attached to a Server 2008 machine. The drives detected fine for a year. Recently they are no longer detected properly. The Smartware virtual CD-ROM form the drive is detected and the drivers install. I attempted removing the drivers, restarting the server and reinstalling the drivers from the Smartware. The state was the same. The drive does not show up in disk management. The device manager shows the device in the hard drive section. I ran a chkdsk on the server and came up clean. The event log shows no errors concerning the hard drives.
The drives work fine on another workstation in the office.
Any ideas?

Hi B0b
not au-fait with VM TBH
but basics are still the same
have you gone through the re-install, as though you were starting afresh?
as it has run for a year, I would look to something failing / corrupting
or
have you done a re-start on th eserer itself
now I know that isn't what we like to do, but sometimes ..........
as chkdsk only examins disc for bad sectors, it isn't looking at quality of data stored theron
luck to you
so now I'm in my SIXTIES FFS
WTAF, how did that happen, so no more alterations to the sig, it will remain as is now

Try to Boot in Safe Mode then go in to Device Manager....Click View, Show Hidden Devices and see if you have any Devices in error with the same driver\device and uninstall them.... Good Luck....
