Actually games is probably one of the few things it might already have going; windows 7 was spectacular for a lot of those. Even I was surprised to see the Compatibility mode thing make UT work.
I don't play to many new games, and I like shotguns and chainsaws, so UT and DooM are generally it. DooM and Quake don't work on it, but the UT games did. With one click on Compatibility. So 8 should at least support that.

@cider,
I have sold my gaming rig as im moving countries, are you able to test some games?
I guess that would depend on my being able to get hold of demos for them? I will give it a go if you tell me which ones.
I haven't really got a gaming rig as such, as I don't buy fancy video cards as a rule. I should at least be able to tell you if the OS supports them reasonably at medium settings.
What were the specs of your old gaming rig?
EDIT:
OK mate, I am forming a game plan..................
Test Rig #1:
AMD Phenom II x4 965BE @ 3.4GHz
ATI/AMD HD 6770 1GB GDDR5
8GB DDR3 1333MHz RAM [2x4 Dual Channel]
Corsair Force3 60GB SATA III SDD (525/550)
1000GB 7200rpm HDD
24x Dual Layer DVD
Windows 8 Consumer Preview
I have been running this box since the release of the developers' preview last September, so it is one of my most stable test rigs.
Test Rig #2
Yet to be assembled, but the case, PSU and fans should arrive tomorrow or Saturday.
Intel Core i5-3570K x4 @ 3.4GHz ~3.8GHz Turbo
ATI/AMD HD 6790 1GB GDDR5
8 GB G-Skill RipJaws DDR3 1600MHz [2x4 Dual Channel]
OCZ Agility 120GB SATA III SDD (500/525)
1000GB 7200rpm HDD
24x Dual Layer DVD
Windows 8 Release Preview
I will try both previews, as they sprung one nasty surprise on me already!
I won't bother with the FX4100, as I don't think it is more than a casual to medium core gaming device........... I don't know about the next generation though............I only bought mine because it was cheap, and I was curious
Well, that's about as close to gaming kit as I can get right now......and with the price of beer, probably for some time to come!!!

Nihil; I'm not a "Gamer" per se, because personally I don't sit here for hours playing games, and I don't own every console, or every game, and my best Video Card in terms of Power, is an ATI (Cringe) HD Video Card, which has 256 MB of Video Memory.
The Newest Computer I have was a Gift for Christmas from 3 years ago, and my Mom basically tried to trick me saying She was getting a new Computer for Herself, and to configure it as though I was getting it.
My Wife told me later it was mine, and I was a little mad at first because when it came time for which Video Card, I could have gotten something better, like 512 MB, but on THAT part, She said nah keep the 256 event hough I said I would have gotten that for me.
But anyway, with what I do, it's still faster than anything I own. One up side of using mainly Unix, is that hardware becomes almost next to nothing, because FreeBSD STILL runs on a 486, and they say in the FAQ if you have a 386, just grab one that still supports that chip set, and use the normal source code upgrade to make sure it's patched fully.
Actually, NT could REALLY take a page from that play book; Do you have ANY idea how many business customers would LOVE to still be using a Patch-able NT or 2000? LOL.
Anyway, my point here, is that any Video Card you buy right now, should be able to handle MOST games at the minimum settings at least.
I know a few games DO require the best of the best, but really, it's not like DooM 4 is out yet. By the way, the reason I am a HUGE Nvidia fan boi, is that they support ALL OSs the same basically.

So long as it rates higher than onboard video, and you only use one display, I would agree.
Most of the problems I have seen/heard of are that the OS doesn't support the latest DirectX, Pixel Shader or whatever or the card doesn't.
I have also seen problems where the card wasn't too clever with changing the aspect ratio to 4:3 for older games.
Also; please remember that a lot of these expensive cards have loads of video RAM to support multiple displays rather than complex games.
I have NVIDIA cards in 256 and 512 and I honestly cannot see the difference on XP at least. With 7/8 I only have two same model Radeon HDs sporting 512 and 1024 DDR3 and again I cannot see a difference between them, or even benchmark it.
EDIT:
I can certainly see differences between DDR1, 2, 3, and GDDR5 but that is quality rather than quantity.

Is booger collector some form of slang I'm not sure about? I collect a lot of things; Magic The Gathering Cards, "Weird" Hardware that I find now and then, Horror Movies (I have as of now about 12 copies of the original Night of the Living Dead, all different in some small way or another. Easy to find since Romero got screwed out of that movie and it's now Public Domain anyway) And also B to Z grade movies including of course, Grindhouse movies. Which is where my name actually came from.
I can't tell you how many times I had to explain that back when that moron ran for office with a last name that was exactly like MY screen name, and, worse yet, his name is Al, and mine is Allen. So Allen and gore.... You can imagine a lot of people thought I was actually political. I listen to Industrial, I hate just about every political part in existence, and the only one that ever made sense were Libertarians.
If booger is slang for old Computers or "weird" Computers, then yes, I collect those too. I still don't have any 386 or 486 stuff though, but I do have a sweet collection of Operating Systems. Even though I got into this late compared to Nihil who was probably there, and may very well have tripped over and unplugged the first ENIAC, I started using Computers AFTER that made them sissy like with a Mouse and easy for idiots to screw up.
Thankfully, I have a pretty good ability to learn the history of things, and I've been interested in History a long time, so, I learned about that pretty fast.
The other thread you're in on, you seem to be taking shots at me, and I haven't really had time to look into you and see if you're an old member who came back, or, a true newbie, but before you go off on some rant judging me for every word I say, I think I should point out, that I'll come off as everything from an Arrogant *****, a Condescending *******, a super nice guy who actually DOES try and help people out, for free, to someone who once spent 12 WHOLE hours, on AIM, with a member here, because they had huge problems getting Linux installed one day, and, having nothing to do that day, I basically helped them set up their system, lock it down, and all the whole, did this without any access to it, and every comment I just said "I might come off as this or that" is of course in some way shape or form true.
I AM Arrogant at times. However, at the same time, I don't judge people all the time either; I'm Christian, and one of my best friends, is an atheist, because I don't push or shove what I Believe down other people's throats. As for Condescending; That, I'm totally like that. It's not that I do that intentionally, but I've been told over and over again I come off very condescending to other people I think are stupid. Now, if you aren't confused yet, I'm also a huge smart ass. I also am more than willing to make fun of myself if I think what I say is funny, or might get someone to laugh and maybe cheer them up.
Now, if that made any kind of sense to you; Congrats! Most people can't see it. Years ago, a senior member here said that when they first saw me, they thought I was completely full of myself and that I was just an arrogant *****, and that I was super condescending. They said after saying all that, that after getting to know me, and reading more of what I said in other posts, that, they realized, I was basically joking, and saying things mainly for humor instead of being a jerk.
So before you make your final opinion of me, and, from that other post you're in with me, it seems you seem to think you have me figured out, for the sake of being fair, do remember, I AM a variable.
Nihil will back me up even when he doesn't agree with me. He's been here a very long time, and, Nihil and I have BOTH fought with each other over what we thought was right. He DOES sometimes forget that I DO sometimes say things literally for no other reason than the sake of making sure the other side is heard, or, maybe just to push buttons now and then (Again, I'm a smart ass, it happens) And even now, in that other thread, Nihil gave me a little rolling his eyes Emoticon, but you know what? Even if he's mad at me, or, even if I'm pissed at him, we BOTH respect each other at the end of the day, and we both actually DO get along.
I'd like to think we're friends but we don't exactly hang out given he lives pretty far away.
*(Nihil; That's your cue to pop in, and back me up in the fact that you know me really well, and know I'm a decent person deep down, and that even when I go off on some Unix Elitist Rant, I still DO listen to the other side rather than dismiss them or something, and the dude that used to come here with the username catch, kind of proved it, since he was a Windows Elitist, and I'm totally BSD elitist all the way Which you know, and, I know you do agree sometimes because whenever I tell you about a new OS to look at, you almost always take my advice, which, you wouldn't do, if you didn't at least value my input).
Now, my Percocet and Xanax breakfast does tend to make me long winded at times, so, I apologize for the long post, but I DO suffer from Panic Attacks, and, I have Disc problems in my spine, so I can't exactly not take those meds, but I DO try and make the best of it.
So, again, before you write me off as a jack ass, at least remember to put a foot note that I AM a jack ass sometimes, I DO screw up, I'm human, but, a lot of people here respect the **** out of me, because I say whatever is on my mind, and I don't talk about people behind their backs. I'm actually a pretty respectable guy when it comes down to it.
WOW that was long lol. The only reason I went into that, was that basically, you are new here I think (Like I said, I haven't taken the time to check your IP against any old members, so I don't know if I know you already or not) but if you're a new member, you DO seem to add valuable posts here.
So, since I think you personally add something to AntiOnline, I felt I'd take the time to explain a few things about me that confuse people normally, that way there's no un-needed friction.
I'm not scared of an argument; I'd just prefer that it be one for the right reasons.

Well that would make two of us, as I really don't know what it means, but I think that The_Spec is referring to the "snotdots", "green peas" or whatever you like to call antipoints?
*(Nihil; That's your cue to pop in, and back me up in the fact that you know me really well, and know I'm a decent person deep down, and that even when I go off on some Unix Elitist Rant, I still DO listen to the other side rather than dismiss them or something, and the dude that used to come here with the username catch, kind of proved it, since he was a Windows Elitist, and I'm totally BSD elitist all the way Which you know, and, I know you do agree sometimes because whenever I tell you about a new OS to look at, you almost always take my advice, which, you wouldn't do, if you didn't at least value my input).
Well, "totally correct" is about all I can say? We don't have arguments as such, but we might have a "heated discussion"
*Unix Elitist".............. not really............it works, and does the job?
See ya later.............
