how important is SSL security for a website?
Hello,
Thanks for taking out time to read my question!
I'm a SEO executive working with an IT services provider company based in india. Our website is hosted on non secure http server and we want to implement push notification feature on the same. Is it necessary to have ssl security on website to have this push notification?

What will happen if you are not going to transition to SSL, is basicly browsers will warn you users before they enter your site that it doesn't have SSL.

A SSL helps these days with rankings. Not only that, it also gives your site visitors confidence in knowing that their data and/or eCommerce transaction data is being processed securely.

Well it helps. Its not going to stop every attack on your site but it makes a change. So let me address this in a proper format.
The 'S' at the end of HTTPS stands for 'Secure'. It means all communications between your browser and the website are encrypted.
Now heres where things get interesting. Google chrome searched for a https version of your site first, it also now display anything that is http in red with thee words insecure alongside it.... even if your site is completely legitimate. This can cause massive bounce rates from users and in turn destroy you user metrics and subsequently your ranking.
There is no penalty for being on http just just the effect the browsers has on users that eventually leads to a lower ranking.
Google has stated that https should be the norm on the web. So it has even removed the once prominent green padlock because it should be standard when browsing the web. This is all part of what they call trying to make a safer online experience.
If you think about it from their standpoint, less stolen data and safer browsing in their search engine equals more users and better user metrics and lastly improved revenue.

Hello nssatikunvar,
As per my knowledge, SSL is very important for the Website as it secures your website and also show the Google that it is secure website for the users. Users can browse the website without any hesitation.
