Is it truly possible to lock-down your computer from all outside entities?
I know if you're skilled you can go to great lengths to prevent the outside world from accessing what you're doing on your computer and/or online, but even if you disconnect from the network, take out any cameras, remove any WIFI enabled gadgetry - can something still find its way in?

but even if you disconnect from the network -> If you mean Internet.....
Then you are left with flash drives and cd\dvd as ways to infect your computer.

It depends on what your goal is. A computer without a network is not very useful. But if you put it in a vault protected with aluminum foil, remove/disable all network chipsets, cameras, microphones, external devices, use an unbreakable password, at least you are relatively secure. Although you will have to figure out how to move data back and forth, if that is a need. But assuming you will have to go inside the vault to type on the computer, you become the weakest link.

A simple no would suffice, but thanks - makes sense.

The goal is simple. To keep you out of it.

If there is any method of interaction or connectivity occurring on the system involved with anything external to it, i.e. the outside world, then there is an opportunity for compromise to occur.
The only way a system can be safe from it becoming compromised would be if you are not using connectivity to the Internet for *any* purpose (i.e. no web surfing, no email, nothing...) and you are not plugging or connecting anything physically to the computer (no USB thumb drives, memory cards, etc.). In summary, what you have is fancy typewriter.
