I am left wondering what kind of a world we will be living in when the dust finally settles from Sept. 11... I'm quite sure that you've all read George Orwell's 1984... if you haven't, now is time to pick up a copy before the gov't bans it... I'm sure you all know what I'm getting at. The question is, what is there to do if it comes to pass?

Some of the words that sparked attention are.. (phrases) "Kill the president" "bomb a city".. stuff like that, and some "key phrases" in some top secret conversations, to see who is really tapping who. Remember a few months back (still around even as much as a few years ago) there was "Send this to all your friends" and it had 5 dozen words and stuff to throw off the government.
But much is to exargeratted... these days, yes the government has been watching you, yes you are profiled, yes americans have a national id card... maybe not a "smart card" but its called a social security card, which has everything profiled you ever done.

I really dislike it when people when people overstate things...new anti-privacy laws are horrible, and unconsitutional, but we're not in a 1984 situation. It's like the word "Nazi". It's used so much to describe such minor occurances that it's really lost it's meaning.

There is one bright side to this:
Bush hates big gov't, so he won't fund this enough to be effective....I hope.

The problem, SecretFire, is that I'm not sure that what I'm saying is overstating the problem... how much longer is it before we can be arrested and executed on little more basis than suspicion? Living in Canada, we see some interesting things - for instance, we were once shown a film in History that was made in the USA about WWI. In this film, the viewer was informed that the good old US defeated the Germans and won the war. Pardon my language, but that's bullshit, as anyone should know. How much longer can it be before we have the Ministry of Truth, telling us that the United States is responsible for every good thing that has ever happened, and that everything bad is the result of "terrorists"? Now is the time to think about the full impact of 9-11, before conjecture becomes reality.

No one is actually being executed for not being patriotic, or breaking into a computer system. When people post that things are going to become like 1984 in every single privacy related thread, it gets a little repetative. I should remind you that for the moment, you still have comeplete rights to say whatever the hell you want, and are still protected by a system that while broken, is quite functional.
