Ok, I understand what you're saying but what I still can't understand is your alienated view on the government. You talk about "them", as some far distant abstraction of something when it in fact is very much real and just around your corner. This is your government. Elected by your country. I think it's a pity if you've given up on makeing a difference because you think your protests will fall on deaf ears.

About walking in your shoes. I've been to the states four times. Two of them were a couple of years back when I was invoved with the International Alliance of Guardian Angels and I spend about a month in New York for leadership training and stuff. Anyway, I found the cops of New York far nicer and more service minded than any police officer I've ever met in Stockholm.

If we found a government representative smoking crack he'd be kicked out of office faster that he can say "innocent". We do it all the time. We kick them out when they buy appartments even though they vote aginst selling apartments to the highest bidder, when they fall in love with each other, when they buy private stuff on their representative card and so on. I'm not kidding. Five or six people have had to go from our current government because they misbehavied.

A quick not to indolent: That is why we have media. Medias most importent function in any democratic stat is to investigate the government.

Anyway, I'm really enjoying this discussion.

Do you really think this forum is not being monitored? Everyone is now being watched...and I'm sure Carnivore is being put to good use as we speak. How about Magic Lantern? You now are starting to see thru the illusion that is our "freedom". No I don't think this discussion is beeing monitored because it is time consuming as hell and it costs more than it is worth. I don't deny the existence of systems like Echelon but as I've stated before, I belive it's capacity is overestimated.

Ravenous, may I suggest that you use a comma or a full stop when you finish a sentence. I really can't make out what you want said. From what I can make out of your post you're telling me that you have to pay to visit some sites on the internet? What does that have to do with anything. Do you feel oppressed because you cant surf pr0n for free?
I can't really sort out any arguments in your text, except that I'm not american which of course is a valid point even though a weak one.

What have your government done that is so horrible? So far I have not seen a single example.

while i've agreed with pretty much everything mankan has said...i'd disagree that the media (mainstream anyways) can be relied on...at least in north america...most media outlets have long given up the pursuit of journalistic excellence and are now mostly driven by ratings and money...

It just seems to me that everybody blames everything on the government but nobody can produce a concrete example of when the government have lied.

Certain things might need monitoring. In any state large enought, I think there is a certain need for an organ like DoD or NSA.

Could you please give me a single example of in what way your freedom is beeing limited by the current administration?
