Yeah, my sis got an e-mail like this, fortunately she asked me before deleting it. After a tense couple of minutes, I realised it was just another system file.

By the way, what does this file do? Doesn't look overly important, but it must do something nasty to be of a hoax.

I believe that it is related to java functions.

Yeah, my friend saw this and raised a red flag, told the system admin, who also happens to be a good friend of mine. The person who forwarded the message also cc it to the entire university library -- a good 200 people who are fairly gullible and computer deficient. The admin sent out a message REAL quick.

Sometimes I think the hoaxes are worse than the real thing.......

jdgmgr is the windows Java debugger manager. What it basically does is allow you to view java applets. aint all that important, but should be left on ure sytem for java applets

You're right Dark Guardian and Morpheus, it is related to Java functionality. Worse case scenario some java applets won't run. If that's the case, the file can be restored easily enough.

From Mcafee's site:

In the event that JDBGMGR.EXE was deleted erroneously, the following method may be used to restore the file from backup:

Information on using the System File Checker to restore files

1) Click START - RUN, type SFC and hit ENTER
2) In the "Specify the system file you would like to restore" field, type C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\JDBGMGR.EXE and hit ENTER
3) In the RESTORE FROM field, type in the path to your WINDOWS CAB files
(ie. C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABS)
(ie. D:\WIN98 where D is the drive letter assigned to your CD-ROM)
4) Click OK and continue with the restore function
