I had my card number stolen and used once. I was visiting San Fransisco at the time. The number was lifted off one of my reciets and used to buy all sorts of over the phone crap. About $350 worth in all. I only got some $300 back from the card company plus it took the cops nearly a year to catch the guy but I guess they did accually catch him. Its an incredible hassle to deal with CC fraud or identity theft at all.
I think there should be more safe gaurds built into Credit Cards. I'm all for making picture ID on every card and requiring a valid ID to go with it. These are just some thoughts though.

sw1g: I was a minor, yes, and I still am, hehe. I got in trouble, but not in as much as I should have. Either way, though, it was the first trouble I'd ever gotten in so, you know, it was still bad.
gurl: Yes, it does pay a trip to prison... I had to go take a tour, which might not seem like a big deal to you all, but it freaked the crap outta me and I'm usually a pretty hard person emotion-wise.
zion: Hehe, thanks, and yes, I'm still PINK! I'm doing editing for the University right now, just got four documents in today that I need to edit for grammar/spelling that we're gonna be putting up soon, but officially I'm still pink. Can't wait for it to come back up.
prod: Yeh, thanks bro. /me salutes back
Pale: I'm deeply sorry for ruining your thread with my personal business. It's fine with me if you would like to delete it and repost or something man, sorry again. :-/

while this is true...the flesh and blood servers are the ones i worry about... if you're using your card at a reputable website...it's probably still way more secure than when you pay for your meal a restaurant especially if you are travelling...or when you leave your signed pmt slip on the table and walk out of the restaurant...if it's busy it may take 5 minutes for your server to pick it up...plenty of time for someone to grab it...and then they have not only your # but your sig as well...

This is probably a legitimate web site but I just can't make myself put my card number into this site to see if it is known. I just seems like a credit card security risk in it's own right. Think about it a minute and then think about the bogus ATM scams that have happened in the past.
No way, I'm not doing it! If they get my number they would then have one piece of information they need to use my card fraudulently.

Identity theft is worse... that's when people get enough information about you to apply for a credit card in your name (the CC companies don't do enough to make sure of your identity) and then go on a spending spree. You only know when you get the bill for your 'new' card...
If you have a horrible credit rating in the first place, you're much safer than if you have a great one.

jehnx, I think you added to this thread more than you can possibly imagine. It is one thing for people to say don't do it, you might get caught; but to have a brave soul admit to having done it and having gotten caught adds a stronger plea to the argument. As you have seen we have lots of wanna be hackers comming around the site, you may have helped keep one out of trouble. *applauds*
Protect your personal information guys and gals. I always shred my old documents that I won't be keeping. Then I soak them in water just to be safe Still I am not safe...
