wouldn't you be dead by now, stewy? i mean sure, some people can live with lung cancer.. and all of it.. but my (dead) grandpa smoked from the age of 20 and, at the end of his life, had more medical problems than anyone i've EVER heard of.. (dialasis.. mouth cancer.. he had no spit glands.. asthma.. (sp?)..). of course, some people have no health problems.

my view on ciggies for kiddies is that, yes, if they really, really want to start, they'll find a way to. eventually it seems like people will stop smoking and move on to all of the other drugs, though..

hmmmm...the best deterrant to smoking is education.
show kids what it does to your heart, your complection, your lungs. id a kid can get a bag of weed a pack of smokes cant be all that hard now can it???

lung cancer is a pretty good deterant i think.

    Right with aphextwin on that...:

    Check out http://www.thetruth.com/html/index.cfm?id=22

Just a few facts from thetruth.com:

    One in five
Their product causes nearly 1 out of 5 deaths in this country. Can you name any other industry that gets away with that?
    - Nearly 1 in 5 deaths caused by tobacco: American Cancer Society
    Add it up
Products made by the tobacco industry kill more than 1,200 people a day. That’s over 400,000 per year (in the U.S. alone).
    - Kills 1200 per day; 50 per hour: American Cancer Society
    Death
Tobacco is responsible for 30% of all deaths among persons 35 to 69-years-old.
    - Growing up tobacco free page VII
    Death
Tobacco is the largest preventable cause of death in the U.S.
    - CDC: MMWR Vol. 46 No. 20, pp 444, 5/23/97.

    Add it up again
The product they sell kills more people than AIDS, murder, suicide, fires, alcohol and all illegal drugs COMBINED.
    - Kills more than…combined: Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, CDC, May 23, 1997

The only way to stop under aged kids from smoking in my mind is to make smoking illegal altogether

I'm not saying tobacco products are not harmful (quite the opposite!) but I would like the just point out that the statistics are pretty malleable given that smoking is a contributing cause to death, rather than something much more clear cut like a single event. As such, both sides of the issue can lay claim to vastly differing statistics.

    kayorin more like £4.46 for twenty >_<;
and the vast majority of that is tax - shop's make max 9p per pack profit
not only is the high price suppoused to discourage smoking but the tax from cigs is to help pay for the health care ,many smokers need later on from the NHS
