Intel, Gateway, & HP sued....

I just ran across this little blurb and haven't seen it posted yet, so I thought I'd pass it along.

It seems that Intel, Gateway, and HP are being sued in an (attempted) class action suit over the P4. The plaintiffs are alleging that they were misled about the P4's performance relative to the PIII and Athlon. They're claiming there is no benefit to consumers in choosing P4 over PIII, which about 18 months ago was true.

Of course, all of us at AO know the story between Intel and AMD, and there's no question that there have been some dirty marketing tricks in both camps. Intel engineers for maximum clock cycles at the expense of performance because the market buys Mhz, and AMD basically makes up its speeds with its "intel equivalent" XP speed ratings.

Frankly, I think all of this is a little silly, but it raises an interesting question. Does any of this rise to the level of consumer fraud?
