Did i hear C# and .net , kick them.Why go for m$ things when other beatiful languages like C are available.

if you plan to be a successful programmer (making the big bucks) then limiting yourself to visual basic and c# is not a great plan. all the hype about this .net stuff will calm down after a few years, just like the hype with java did, and .net will fall into it's little nitch, just like java did.
if you really plan to "go where the money is" then you better learn some more established languages (like c/c++), because even if you don't wind up being a c programmer, the concepts in c will be used in future languages for many years to come.
