Locking PC
I forgot how to set my PC to automatically lock after X amount of time of non use. Sometimes I step away from my PC and forget to lock it and I need a back up to secure my system.

What version of Windows or *nix are you using? Usually, in Windows (which I assume you're using), you can set the computer to require a password when coming out of a screensaver or waking from standby. Just set the time for your screensaver to be fairly short (5-10 minutes) and click the box to require a password, and you're set.

Windows 2000 - isn't there a setting the administrator uses on all machines to kick it on?

i think this is what you want:
start>control panel>power options>
power schemes tab
system standby: set accordingly
advanced tab
check "prompt for password when computer goes off standby"
just like water off a duck\'s back... I AM HERE.

In XP... set a screensaver password.
Display Properties -> Screensaver -> On resume, Password protect.
I wouldn't be surprised if it was almost exactly the same in 2000. Futhermore, you can lock the console with winkey+L if you have multi-user-login switching off. (The pretty screen.)

Thank you X, I am currently test that feature. I also found something called winexit in your archives. This is similiar to what I am looking to use. However, if you fail to use the Force Application Feature it hangs. If you use the feature it does a full log out, if you do not use the feature it is supposed to lock. It works fine under Windows NT, but under Win 2K if you set it to lock it hangs and if you set it to log out it works fine. Is there a way to fix this problem?
X's software may do the trick, I'm still testing it. I was just curious about this winexit thing.

I did a little research to follow up my previous off-the-cuff post. There is a Windows Exit Screensaver in the Win2k resource kit. Looks like the same functionality as the NT version. Many of the programs in the resource kit are available from the Microsoft web site., but I don't believe this one is.
