Very good post Cannis Lupus;for the present the US intervention seems necessary due to the potential danger that Iraq pose.I do also think that war as a meaning of solving the complicated problems of nowadays world, is an obsolete solution and maybe the future leaders will be inclined to find other paths.I just wonder, what it would take for Mr.Bush to call Baghdad and invite their President somewhere and talk, man to man, leader to leader. We did a lot of talking with the former Russian leaders during the cold war and they were far more devious than Saddam is,not mentioning the millions of people that died during their regime.Just a thought;thanx for readind it.

LETTER TO THE FRENCH PEOPLE FROM SENATOR JOE LIEBERMAN

OPEN LETTER TO THE FRENCH PEOPLE FROM SENATOR JOE LIEBERMAN TO THE PEOPLE OF FRANCE - IN REMEMBRANCE

    Liberty, Equality, Fraternity!

Does the French nation recall that slogan?

The current French tolerance of and indifference to the wave of attacks upon French Jews speaks clearly of the decline of the French national character.

The French have forgotten! Two hundred and some odd years ago the suffering French populace erupted in revolution against tyranny. They cried for and fought for liberty, fraternity, equality for all in every aspect of French society.

The French have forgotten! But I remember! I still have in my mind the heartbreaking image of the Parisian gentleman from whose eyes the tears fell copiously as he watched the Nazi troops marching triumphantly into Paris. The face of that Frenchman still lives in my mind sixty years later. It is the same as the faces of so many French Jews today.

The French have forgotten! But I remember! I remember the ecstasy, the flowers, the kisses with which the French people greeted their American and British liberators from Nazi terror.

The French have forgotten! They have forgotten the dehumanizing result of terror upon themselves. They have forgotten the shame of Vichy France. Those who watch with indifference the attacks upon their neighbors sink into degeneracy themselves.

The French have forgotten brotherhood and love of others than themselves. They have forgotten equal justice. They have forgotten that a nation without strength of morality and character is a nation already in the lower depths of degradation.

So, just as the Swiss were part of the Nazi problem sixty years ago, the French are part of the problem of world terrorism today. As the French casually watch their Jewish citizens attacked let them remember how they, the French, acquiesced in cowardice at the rape of Czechoslovakia by the Nazis in 1938, only to suffer under the Nazi heel so soon after.

My contempt for present day France is accompanied by great regret. We gave the lives of American boys to save them twice. They have forgotten. However, we Americans have not forgotten. All Americans with integrity of character must boycott France. I hope large numbers of you will join me in this.

If this e-mail is forwarded by just 1/2 of all recipients it could reach 10,000,000 Americans in a matter of days. Let's make the French remember!

An Open Letter To The Hollywood Bunch

Ok let’s just say for a moment you bunch of pampered, overpaid,
unrealistic children had your way and the U.S.A. didn’t go into Iraq.

Let’s say that you really get your way and we destroy all our nuclear
weapons and stick daisies in our gun barrels and sit around with some
white wine and cheese and pat ourselves on the back, so proud of what
    we’ve done for world peace.

Let’s say that we cut the military budget to just enough to keep the
National Guard on hand to help out with floods and fires.

Let’s say that we close down our military bases all over the world and
bring the troops home, increase our foreign aid and drop all the trade
    sanctions against everybody.

I suppose that in your fantasy world this would create a utopian world
where everybody would live in peace. After all, the great monster, the
United States of America, the cause of all the world’s trouble would
have disbanded it’s horrible military and certainly all the other
countries of the world would follow suit.

After all, they only arm themselves to defend their countries from the
    mean old U.S.A.

Why you bunch of pitiful, hypocritical, idiotic, spoiled mugwumps.
get your head out of the sand and smell the Trade Towers burning.
Do you think that a trip to Iraq by Sean Penn did anything but encourage
a wanton murderer to think that the people of the U.S.A. didn’t have the
nerve or the guts to fight him?

Barbra Streisand’s fanatical and hateful rankings about George Bush
makes about as much sense as Michael Jackson hanging a baby over a
    railing.

You people need to get out of Hollywood once in a while and get out into
the real world. You’d be surprised at the hostility you would find out
    here.
Stop in at a truck stop and tell an overworked, long distance truck
driver that you don’t think Saddam Hussein is doing anything wrong.

Tell a farmer with a couple of sons in the military that you think the
United States has no right to defend itself.

Go down to Baxley, Georgia and hold an anti-war rally and see what the
folks down there think about you.

You people are some of the most disgusting examples of a waste of
protoplasm I’ve ever had the displeasure to hear about.

Sean Penn, you’re a traitor to the United States of America. You gave
aid and comfort to the enemy. How many American lives will your
little, ”fact finding trip“ to Iraq cost? You encouraged Saddam to
think that we didn’t have the stomach for war.

You people protect one of the most evil men on the face of this earth
and won’t lift a finger to save the life of an unborn baby. Freedom of
    choice you say?

Well I’m going to exercise some freedom of choice of my own. If I see
any of your names on a marquee, I’m going to boycott the movie. I will
completely stop going to movies if I have to. In most cases it
certainly wouldn’t be much of a loss.

You scoff at our military who’s boots you’re not even worthy to shine.
They go to battle and risk their lives so ingrates like you can live in
    luxury.
The day of reckoning is coming when you will be faced with the
undeniable truth that the war against Saddam Hussein is the war on
    terrorism.

America is in imminent danger. You’re either for her or against her.
    There is no middle ground.

I think we all know where you stand.

    What do you think?

    God Bless America

I personally would have left this discussion in the secular realm, but if someone else wants to bring religion into the picture, then so be it. The literal question question you're asking is unanswerable. I really can't tell you who deserves to be bombed the most, but I'm sure Saddam is on the list and I won't even attempt to guess what his ranking is since it doesn't really work that way.

The real question at hand, however, isn't really who he would bomb, but IF he would bomb. Well, I know the answer to that one, and anyone who's studied the Bible much should know it too. Jesus is portrayed in modern society as soft-skinned with flowing hair and gleaming teeth. He's shown carrying little children and preaching about love and peace beside rivers and fields of flowers. There's more to it than that. The side of Jesus that people often forget to talk about is the side where he harshly rebukes those that are doing wrong. He rebukes them, calls them to repent, and warns them of the severe consequences of disobedience. Lest you confuse Jesus' warnings with those of the UN, you may want take a look at some verses where Jesus took action against wrongdoing and some other verses where it tells us that he will again.

Start with John 2 and Mark 11 where it talks about Jesus' trip to the temple. His anger at the way the temple was being misused by the greedy moneychanger's moved him to action. He didn't try to go negotiate with the moneychangers and arrange inspections. He saw an injustice, prepared himself by braiding a whip, then began to correct the situation himself. He overturned the moneychangers' tables and used the whip to drive them from the temple. Not your typical hippie. Not the Jesus we see portrayed in TV mini-series.

Next, take a look at the book of the Revelation, where he isn't going to hold back anymore. Pay particular attention to Revelation 6 and the seven seals of judgement that Jesus himself is going to release on the earth for its disobedience. It's generally referred to as the wrath of the Lamb and over 1/4 of the world's population will be destroyed. Again, not the Jesus from the mini-series.

As I said before, I can't answer the question of who Jesus would really bomb, but I can assure you that Jesus is perfectly willing to correct an injustice - even by force.

Can we please try and keep some level of intelligence going in this thread? Leave religion out of it!

i just watched an MTV expose on world opinions on the war against iraq. they interviewed a few people from a few countries and, surprise, every single one of them came to the ridiculous conclusion that the war is all about oil, and America is evil, yada yada... people have a right to their opinions even if they are wrong. what really pisses me off is that a source as influential as MTV can be as irresponsible to present such a narrowly one-sided view of a complicated issue. typical of the entertainment industry.

i'm convinced it can't be pure genetic stupidity fueling that intellectual vacuum in the entertainment game as much as the confluence of overflowing arrogance and shameless exhibitionism, coming into critical mass in the presence of adoring want-to-bes. but then again, if you get your news from MTV you're already an idiot.

if you're a religious person then you know that the God of the Old Testament was a mean SOB who killed sinners with fire and brimstone. saddam needs a little Old Testament religion. amen.

"every single one of them came to the ridiculous conclusion that the war is all about oil, and America is evil, yada yada... people have a right to their opinions even if they are wrong"

What's ridiculous is the people who "fail" to see this. As I said before in another thread, North Korea is over there rattling their cage threatening nuclear annihilation with an itchy trigger finger and Iraq hasn't made a peep or set foot across their borders in 10 years. Yet George and his "Gang of Idiots"(TM) are thoroughly convinced that Saddam is the newest Boogieman and is arming terrorist organizations and building WMD to use against the US, yet they can produce absolutely nothing to back this up in terms of evidence. Every photograph and map they've had the UN inspectors seek out has ended up being a dud. It was enough for one UN official to decry US intelligence as "garbage, garbage, garbage".

I'm also glad our president believes in God. For those of you who don't know, that's a lot better than having a sexually permiscuous, pathologically lying person as the leader of a country.
