SMTP: WHat is and How does it work?

Yeah im having a problem with a ghostmail program and I am just wondering what SMTP is and what it does. The program says there is a problem with my SMTP server and its just confusing my and generally pissing me off. Oh, yeah im on a network so that could be part of the problem.

try www.google.com , but SMTP is Simple Mail Transfer Protocol, you'll find a lot of good info on google, just do a quick search.

When searching for specific computer related terms and acronym, try: http://www.whatis.com

Its a ton more helpful, take SMTP for example. Just type in SMTP, and you get:
