If I'm not mistaken (and I do that a lot ) the ISP keeps logs of the time period you are online together the telephone number you used to dail in.

So if you would set up a pre pay ISP account, make some dummy e-mail, sent your mail and never use that account again, they could still track the IP of your account and thus through the logs your telephone number, even if you haven't told them anything about you, they can still track you is you used your phone.

So the telephone you are using to dail in plays a role too.

Ok, I apolgy for my perhaps rude/brutal reaction in the beginning of this post.
After all, not everybody has malicious intentions and he didn't ask how to do something malicious.
Sorry skynet74, hope you found an answer to your question!

    spamming

spamming runs , forget it , it's stupid and illegal
Not illegal...yet. I think one state has some restriction laws. I personally don't think it should be illegal but that is another point/thread.

There are "anonymous remailers" just type that and variations in google. There is also something called "chained proxies" that are available. Both are dynamic, meaning they may exist today and NOT tomorrow. Those are the easy ways, you can also shape your packets, meaning you physically change information in the packet it's self. This method requires programming knowledge (unless a little kiddie downloads a tool), knowledge of the TCP/IP stack and knowledge of SMTP.

There are VALID reasons to do this kind of thing. Anonymity - it's that simple. Maybe you want to stress an opinion of a government agency or policy within an organization and NOT have the message traced back to you, for repercussions. Maybe you are a member of an organization that does not tolerate "whistleblowers” Also maybe your find out your brother or neighbors is KILLING people. And you want to talk to law enforcement without them tracing it back to you. Or maybe you are a member of a drug cartel and you want to come clean. WHO KNOWS, open your minds and realize that everything is not Black or White. Some people are terrified of privacy in this country because we are LOSING it, very slowly, and know one bats an eye.

Peace man, use a remailer, it's the easiest. Still traceable but DAMN hard and unless you are selling Nukes, chances are no one is going to waste their time on you.

The other guys have made some valid points and I see where they are coming from.

Anyway I hope your question was answered to the fullest and sorry for the first impression analysis.

Only if you are using your own phone! Try using a table phone in a truckstop/ with a data plugin. Airports offer data line plugins, as do some rest areas (service plazas on the turnpike). So the phone you use can be generic as well as the IP.

But, I also owe an apology to skynet74 . While talking with afriend of mine about this, he mentioned that he had sent a non-complementry e-mail to then Pres. Clinton. He was audited by the IRS with in 3 months, and re-audited the next year. Privacy does have its merits.

What type of connection do you have? I mean if you are still using 56k then dont worry about someone getting your ip because they are not static IPs. every time you sign n to a 56k you get a new ip. right? The only way they could trace you from there would be to get your ISP logs and see whop had that IP at the time th message was sent. so using the pre paid isp disk that was suggested earlier would work.

xtc46 even if u use 56k modem.. your entries would still be logged in ur ISP's logfile.......

Infact in India our Police had tracked a Hacker who was trying to hack the websites from Cybercafe....

Hence what u r suggesting is not foolproof.........

Thats why you use a pre-paid cellphone on your laptop to dial. When you're done, smash the phone and dump it(They will triangulate your ass like they did Mitnick if they want you bad enough but you musta done somethin VERY NAUGHTY if they want you that much)
