AlcatraX, I think you are one of those who would get stuck to step one of Wrayth tut. Try to see big picture what he is exactly saying. Freedom of speech, isn't it, and lot of people don't like it, because they can't see how much they don't know about security community. I think what he said in his tut was beautifully carried out.

    hi all,
no doubt the way, Wrayth has written tutorial is a remarkable piece of work in itself.
but what it seemed to me is like an essay on hacking, because it lacked any of the technical details.
i`m new to AO, so i thought another newbie seeking info on, how to hack? concealing it under the excellent tut. as it happens many times.but i was wrong.

i didn`t meant to annoy anyone, so i have regrets for post.

Hehe, don't worry Alc... I know there are few technical details, but then the point of the post was that hacking isn't about technical details. It's about how you approach challenges, about how you see the world and the attitude you hold. You can be a 'hacker' without ever touching a computer, if you want... it's a lot harder, because the frontiers are more explored and defined, but it's still the same thing.

The technical details change for every situations... OS, Hardware, connection, objectives, it's pointless trying to list them because the next situation along will require the opposite approach.

What made this post so appealing to everyone is the simple fact that the tittle itself makes you want to read it. When I came across this post I thought I was going to actually learn how to become a hacker step by step. What I learned instead is how, how to become a hacker.(If that makes any sence)

This was a super post! Well written. Reffering to this thread in the future would be a very intellegent thing to do.

    Cheers!

Good stuff!! i know that every post I write gets bombed for whatever reason , but here goes. This is exactly the kind of mentality that led me to AO in the first place!! I'm just glad someone finally put it into a more salient format than "Yeah Baby!!"...Seriously, though. we all need this reminder, as I too feel sometimes it would be more fun just to reroute the wiring and wait for the results....

    Thumbs up

Brilliant! an excellent dissertation on the hacker as a species. I agree wholeheartedly with Wrayth in that hacking is a mindset not a skillset.

OK we all look for workarounds, fixes and shortcuts; but that doesn't make us hackers, that I would suggest is a matter of ethos and mores, which Wrayth's piece cleverly demonstrates.

    Keep up the good work
