Linux or *nix
Hi,
I was walking around in a computer superstore *MICROCENTER* and i noticed a LINUX CD. the price of that was $70. Rite next to it there was *NIX, which cost $40. Which one is user friendlier and better?...It could be a very dumb question but i'm not sure lol

well.. there are many types of linux os's.. and each one (cd you see) should give further identification as to what distributution it is..
linux is a general term OS name.. *nix is also a general name but it would cover unix blends as well.

Why pay when you can get it for free.

I'm told Mandrake is the easiest since it has less required configuring.

I agree with that. I'd definitely recommend Mandrake 9.1 for a new Linux user, with KDE (maybe Gnome) desktop. If you have no idea about Linux at all, you should get Knoppix-STD. Just burn it, and it functions as a boot disk, so you don't need to "install" it to mess around in Linux, and it has some nice tools.
Good luck. Linux is great, if you're willing to learn to operate it.
