Thanks for your support, Neutron. It's always refreshing to see common sense rule!!
I think I'll just stay out of the "God" thread from now on.

What I don't get is why any of you feel like defending your beliefs....neither side will be successful in 'convincing' the other side...it's pointless.
I think a good question is this:
Why...why do you feel like it's important to explain, prove, site, defend, persuade, etc., what you believe?
Then why did you post to this thread? You yourself stated what you believe in. If you won't "defend" your beliefs, then why mention them at all.

I see you found the statement...
Well about this bit, I cannot agree with you. I was a believer, for a while. I was raised like so, and I genuinely believed in the existance of God and all the stuff in the Bible. I have grown over it and past it, but I do come forth with knowledge of believers and some different opinions, and I learned, thus far that one cannot understand one another for his choice. I feel most of the people that posted here have a personal creed, alone from church and others... and I feel, no matter your choice for religion [though I lack to see the point of organized religion, one needs faith not priests], that when one begins to understands, one truly believes.

This is not to convince others of anything, or at least, it should not be. We express our views freely and uninhibitedly. That's all.
cheers!

Are you on some sort of a crusade? What is the point of defending you arguments to people who are dissecting them for flaws at all times? If you constantly need to defend your opinions then maybe you don't believe in them enough to let them speak for themselves. Someone who truely believes in god believes it so fully that they see the pointlessness of trying to convince someone without faith. Someone who truley doesn't belive in god knows the impossibilty of trying to convince someone of faith that there is no god. This whole argument is pointless and insignificant.

If that was true, these forums would be a pretty boring place. I find the discussion
to be fun, entertaining, and occasionally educational.
I came in to the world with nothing. I still have most of it.

It is a dead-end road where nobody changes their mind. And c'mon, you're arguing with people who try to pass off the word "unsecure" as if it is actually a word. They aren't going to be able to hold up the other side of an intelligent conversation with you...

Who sayed that I was unable to hold up an inteligent conversation/ debate???
you do not have a clue what I can or can not hold up, so do not make uneducated guessess basses on the word insecure, whitch I happoned to spell incorectly...
I respect every ones beleafs even if I do not agree.
I was brought up christion when I was little, I now choose not to beleave as I can see way to many floors in the subject allong with the fact that I do not feel the need to have somthing to be leave in.

My personal belief is that neither side is correct.
I believe christianity, or any ancient religeon was created by some very smart people to assist in controlling early people. The basic rule of all religeon is "If you're good, you will be rewarded. If you're bad, you get punished." It's the perfect tool for governing, also why early rulers tended to be considered gods, or some religeous figure. Given the opportunity (left alone without rules) people in general are far too primitive to survive, we will killl, rape, hurt and do many nasty things without guidance. Religeon provides a control over people unequalled in any way. People dont do bad things because of fear of the favor being returned. In fact, good things are great to do because you will be rewarded. But now people have evolved (not in the sense of darwin, but just gotten smarter) that religeon is not the control it once was. Hence discusions like this. Freedom and exchange of ideas have eroded its effectivness. Now religeon is fading into a simple crutch of society that is used for support when they need it, but the rest of time its thrown out the window. No obviously this is not true for everyone the are many devout believers and i respect that, but there are far too many fake ones.
Now, on to the science. Its the best explaination we have for why we are here. But the main principle of science is nothing is certain. I personally find it hard to beleive that we are here by chance. High school biology teaches kids that a long time ago a bunch of compounds floated around in this organic soup combined with lighting and sun for energy and over the course of a billion years that they just *happened* to bump into eachother in the right way to create a living lump of organic material. Which just happened to divide, therefor becoming dominent over other lumps of organic material that could not divide. Eventually through natural selection and a hell of a lot more *just happened* scenarios (the number would have to be truely staggering to create us from the said lump of organic material) You, me and the average joe started up. People say religeon is the easy way out, i think (at the moment anyway) science is pretty easy too.
I personally believe that there is something that we could never ever comprehend that made... governes.... controls.... whatever word you'd like.... us. And i dont mean, a three year old cant comprehend algebra... im talking a blind person understanding color or what the universe would be like if we had 16 dimensions. I suppose you could say im taking the easy way out too, but its my way, my belief..... and thats what this discussion is all about, peoples beliefs.

knocker and Nightfall.... like I said before when this point of view was mentioned earlier... don't mix up the organised aspect of the religion with the actual faith aspect of it. For example it is possible to believe in God and still revile the Church. I would agree that organised religion can be (and certainly has been) used as a mass control mechanism... but that doesn't necessarily mean that the faith aspect of a particular religion isn't valid.
