Red Hat to end product line
Red Hat announces end of RHL product line
By Online Staff
November 4, 2003
Red Hat, the most widely used commercial Linux distribution, has announced that it will not release any more products in the Red Hat Linux line.
In an email to customers of its Red Hat Network, the company said those who wished to continue using the Red Hat line would have to migrate to the Enterprise line of products.
There are three lines of the Enterprise product - Enterprise Linux Workstation, Enterprise Linux Server and Enterprise Linux Advanced Server. The prices range from $US179 for the workstation product to $US18,000 for the advanced server version that runs on the IBM zSeries and s/390. Versions of the advanced server which run on other platforms, like the x86, cost less.
In the email, Red Hat said it would discontinue maintenance and errata support for Red Hat Linux 9 on April 30 next year. Maintenance and errata support for Red Hat Linux 7.1, 7.2, 7.3 and 8.0 would cease from December 31 this year.
This means that users who want a Red Hat-style distribution free would have to resort to using Fedora, which is styled as a "a Red-Hat-sponsored and community-supported open source project." Fedora is not a supported product of Red Hat.

Well cant say its much of a surprise. Now their making money from the Enterprise line and they got a big name for themselves i guess they dont care about the people who have given them such a big name.
Nevermind, looks like its time to find a new distro.

Awww, it was such a nice story, he has eventually won me over, and I'm going to give it a try.
At least I'll know where to go for Tech Support
