Backdoor.Beasty has invaded my computer!
Can anyone help me? I found the trojan virus "Backdoor.Beasty" on my computer, but my anti-virus program couldn't help me (they wanted me to delete the file "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\{AP042907-B967-10D8-9CBD-2672810A369E]" but that file does NOT exist on my computer!!) Is there another way for me to go with this? I can't fix it or even quarantine it.
Also, does anyone know how I may have contracted this virus? through email, or a download? I just don't want to do it again!!
Thanks for your help.

Maybe you have already done this, but it's a good place to start.
Good Luck!

You could have obtained this Trojan any number of ways. Kazaa porn, email attachment, warez, etc..
My advice, run primarily on a limited account, that way next time a Virus/Trojan comes along it won't be able to execute itself with the appropriate permissions. And always scan before opening any attachment or installing any program.

Turn off your system restore...that's probably what is keeping your AV from getting rid of it.

It isn't paranoia when you KNOW they're out to get you...

Just to clarify, this isn't actually a file, that is, you won't find it looking
around in windows explorer. It's a registry key, and you get there by running
regedit.exe
Start-->Run-->regedit
or type regedit at a dos prompt.
I came in to the world with nothing. I still have most of it.
