Let me use an outside example for you.
Say you have a house that has 25 rooms and each room has a water faucet. The main water line into your house is your bandwith. It is made up of water volume and pressure ( volume of course meaning amount, and pressure meaning speed).
If you were using an open tap, and pulling as much water as you could into your room (as in downloading 50 files), then the water pressure and volume flow to the other rooms would drop as long as you have your water tap open.
This is a simplistic example but it does show that one heavy user will affect the rest of the users on the same line.
