    I heard porn surfing increases workplace productivity. Or harassment. One of the two.

    The problem with white lists is that you might be getting phone calls a lot for who-knows-what site that people heard about and they think it's relevant. Sure, adding it to the list would be a matter of seconds - after, of course, checking its content - but it depends how much time you have for that.

    On the other hand, somebody might be setting up a tripod page with some tools/exploits to rig their local machine [from home] and once they get to work they start hacking [in the sledge-hammer sense] at their box with said tools. And blacklisting all of tripod doesn't strike me as a great idea [or geocities, for that matter].

    I'm dying to see what work related content you can find on those sites..... I sure can't find anything relevant to my business worth allowing complete access to them.....

    You could also download Spybot:
    -Update it
    -Change Mode --> Advanced Mode
    -Open Tools --> Hosts File
    Then take a look at the sites Spybot has determined to be detrimental to a system, maybe make a copy of it and decide to block some/all of those sites based on your own needs? (You could also just print out your Hosts file for sites routed back to LocalHost 127.0.0.1). I was looking online for just a simple link to the spybot sites database but, I couldn't find one. If there is an easier way then my apologies. Hopefully, this can help get the ball rolling.

    Heh not a lot, admittedly, but depending on your work information might be available. In these cases though, probably white-listing is better indeed... hmm, I retract my statement, you want to blacklist tripod and geocities and maybe allow one or two sites that you're sure are relevant to the work of your company [if any user can provide such a link for you].

    Info for the websense user.

    Mark: Make sure to block web page translators.

    I am currently at a school that uses this on thier network and I can bypass the filter by entering a web page translator and entering the website and it gives me access to it.

    The network administrator on my network does not know about this, but i do not have the right to inform them so i am trying to inform you.
