IR wouldn't be the first choice in a fire zone,
that is correct.. except these cameras that the fire fighters are being used for 2 purposed 1st being for life saving then fire location.. that are used in SMOKE zones..ie when all that is there to see is smoke....
Still true: but IR still has issues when the ambient temp is higher than the average body
The normal core body temperature of a healthy, resting adult human being is stated to be at 98.6 degrees fahrenheit or 37.0 degrees celsius. Though the body temperature measured on an individual can vary, a healthy human body can maintain a fairly consistent body temperature that is around the mark of 37.0 degrees celsius.
IR is the range of choice, it's just not the only wave length out there to have any use.

to the topic :
If the price is within budget, and the name is a known and 'trusted' brand, then buy it :
if the capability for seeing through clothes is available, set a feed up here
so now I'm in my SIXTIES FFS
WTAF, how did that happen, so no more alterations to the sig, it will remain as is now

Ifra red is not just one wavelength.. it is a range of frequencies.. infact broader than visable light..
If you had visited the second link I provided your would see part of what I was discussing..
as for firefighters.. the cameras use a mixture of optical and electronic filtering to do their job
just do a bit of reaserch on Microbolometer cameras

Wildred old chap...............
I can see a small problem, perhaps?
"X-Rays"
Uranium 235, Strontium 90 , Plutonium............
"Homeland Security Act"
?????????????????????????
I believe that the whole concept would depend upon the possession of illegal substances.

It was merely something that I saw on Good Day America as well as something that was easily Google-able....Its not really an X-Ray as we know X-rays....like going to the dentist and checking for cavaties..its not like that...
From one article online, they say that you can actually see through clothing...which concerns me more than anything since I live in FL and visit the beaches frequently.
The question I asked, mistakingly, was whether or not the claims that many online sites have are true and whether or not this technology truly does exist...
It went from me being a voyeur, to firefighters, to illegal possession of substances...phew!
I wouldn't have asked this question if I knew it what would have transpired....oh well...

Hey Wildred.......chill out old chap, huh?
You asked a good question, but got a load of different ideas?
This is a "security site" so I took your question to be a security related one......
X-Rays are used in luggage screening, medical stuff and whatever.
Because you need a source,... you need to have the stuff to emit it...............now those are "illegal substances" as I chose to define them.
Both our countries have some fine young men away from home this Christmas on account of "illegal substances"?

Agreed....I understand your description of Xrays..and agree that real Xrays do contain that...the whole Xray term (the way I was using it) was that you can see through things...I dont know if you recall, but way back when they used to sell Xray glasses...they didnt work...but were cool to the youngsters...they still used the term Xray even though they werent really anything Xray like about them. The idea that I was describing was having a camera act LIKE an Xray does...where you can see through things...in this case clothing..which really wouldnt be cool...
Ill stop replying to this post now, since its really just beating a dead horse. Bah humbug.
