Suse and Broadband
Ok well as many of you know I'm a win/mac user with pretty close to zero knowledge of *nix
But as I was doing a full clean sweep of machine (full format and reinstal) I thought meh what the hell and made it dual-boot
So am now running win xp pro with suse
But my problem is this - aparantly there is a way of getting my BT voyager 100 adsl usb modem working with suse using eciadsl
but suse isn't one of the distros they have made a nifty lil install package for - now bearing in mind i know < nothing about *nix anyone wanna give me a hand in explaining what i need to do to get it working - if possible?

Hey Hey,
Do you have a link to the software package? I'm assuming it's this one http://eciadsl.flashtux.org/index.php?lang=en but I just want to be sure.
You can, if you want to take the easy way out, try the rpm... SuSE does have the support for RPMs... and the package may or may not work.
However, your best bet is to download the sources.
Download either the tar.bz2 or the tar.gz. You can then install it using the following commands:
from a command prompt
tar -zxvf eciadsl-usermode-0.10.tar.gz or tar -jxvf eciadsl-usermode-0.10.tar.bz2
cd eciadsl-usermode-0.10
./configure
make
make install
make cfg
At this point you'll get a nice little pop-up window that let's you configure your settings.. and BT Voyager is definately in the list, however since I don't have a modem, I can't walk you through the steps after that point... If you want to let us know what happens after you generate the configs.. basically what I did was
enter username and password
select BT Voyager from modem list
Click DCHP
Click Generate Config
Click OK
Now you're back at the command prompt... run the command eciadsl-start and let us know what happens. It worked fine for me until I got the modem not found error (I don't have a DSL Modem)..
On another note, have you tried using YaST to see if it will auto detect your modem?
Good Luck and let us know if you need any more help.
Peace,
HT

Which version of SuSE are you using?
9.3 has this package...
http://www.novell.com/products/linux...-usermode.html
If you don't have 9.3... you can DL it via torrent. It'll take a bit to DL though.
I think I had it in two days using my adsl connection with my upload capped at 7kbps.
It was around 3.3gb for all 5 cds.
Or, you can just grab the DVD if you have a DVD burner.

Or you can just download and use the package HT posted.
Should be the same thing... I just like to run the lastest and greatest version of any distro.
Quitmzilla is a firefox extension that gives you stats on how long you have quit smoking, how much money you\'ve saved, how much you haven\'t smoked and recent milestones. Very helpful for people who quit smoking and used to smoke at their computers... Helps out with the urges.

If you take this way to get it, you'll have to get the DVD.... Novell leaves a lot of tools off the CD that they put on the DVD and this package is one of them.. --- http://www.novell.com/products/linux...ff_cd_dvd.html
