something like "grep" for multiple excel files
does anyone know about such a tool???
something, that would search (kinda like regual Ctrl-F), but you'd be able to run it on multiple files w/out opening them

Umm... not knowing the OS (assuming Windows flavour) the search option (as per the WinXP Pro I'm using) does have advance features that allow for searches inside documents (and thus you can narrow it down to .xls and "a word or phrase in the document"). Unless I'm misunstanding what you want to do..

It's nice to see you again MsMittens. I didn't even think about that Windows itself would have .xls search capabilities. Maybe XP does but I'm on 2000 and it won't give me any results
