The requirment for a photo id while voteing is a local one...and that is how it should be, the onstitution stipulates that every one gets to vote but leaves teh details of how it is done to the states juristictions explicitly.

In Canada your driver's license, your health card, bus passes, and soon your SIN card, all have your picture on it...even the libraries have looked into picture id...
At this end of the country, it's Drivers ID, Liquor ID with photos, oh and the local library/fitness centre, I haven't seen where it is required on the health card yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was to come into effect soon, but then again this country was considering getting rid of the SIN card at one point and replacing it with something else, I think it was mid 80's this idea was floated around.

Whenever we go to the voting station to vote, we are crossreferenced against a list which is done up prior to an election by enumerators, who go by a list of Civic Addresses based upon prior census information. Show drivers liscense is all that's required, process your vote, pick up bottle of Capt'n Morgan at the exit, and see ya next year.

Damn, I agree with bballad. I made my comment because here you have to have an ID which is verified on a list before you can vote. This makes sure you are in the right place because based on location there are different items on the ballot. In my district this year there is a proposal to build new schools etc... If you do not have a valid ID and insiste you are in the right place, thanks to the Dems, you get to vote anyway and your ballot goes on a list that is "supposed" to be verified before it counts but until it is proven otherwise it's the opposite. It counts until proven to be invalid.

So the idea of a naitonal voting card is redundant and unconstitutional as bballad pointed out.
