    unlocatable IP address

    I studied my email headers and have an IP address that is unlocatable. I tried everything in dnsstuff.com and no physical address shows. In Whois it pops up as Internet Assigned Numbers in Marina Del Ray and in further investigating I found that the numerical order it falls in is this:
    "169.254.0.0/16 - This is the "link local" block. It is allocated for
    communication between hosts on a single link. Hosts obtain these
    addresses by auto-configuration, such as when a DHCP server may not
    be found."

    What kind of IP address would be this hard to find? And what does this explanation from www.iana.org mean?

    169.254.0.0/16 - This is the "link local" block. It is allocated for communication between hosts on a single link. Hosts obtain these addresses by auto-configuration, such as when a DHCP server may not be found.
    If you've ever used a Windows 98 machine or higher, you've seen this assigned when a DHCP server is unavailable. It's a temporary IP so to speak. You could use for two machines directly connected to each other but not necessarily for routing.

    Is the 169 address your own? Or is it the sender?

    sounds like it was spoofed or a misconfigured mail server.

    What does it mean to be spoofed? And would a full fledged email service provider have a misconfigured server?

    spoofed as in tampered with or faked. why dont you post the email headers minus your personal info and so that we could see them.
