Problem Using Hping
Hi everybody!
I have a problem in using hping, i downloaded hping2.0.0-rc3 and installed it succesfully, but when i want to ping a host eg. ; hping# <host> it says;
[main] physical layer header size unknown
I have a Surecom Ralink RT2500 802.11 wireless LAN card and its configured with YAST and its working fine.
Now what can i do to solve the problem?
thanks

You can start by reading TH13's brilliant tutorials. Click here to find them. The thing is you haven't set TCP flags or even a port to craft packets to. If you want to ping something, why not simply use 'ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx'?

Well, even when i set TCP flags and destination port it outputs the same:
linux:~ # hping 192.168.0.1 -S -p 80 -c 2
[main] physical layer header size unknown
thank you

Wireless SUX. There's probably something about your
network card that's incompatible. Do you have another computer
(wired) to test with?
I came in to the world with nothing. I still have most of it.

More than likely, hping does not support your wireless card. This isn't uncommon. Many tools have issues with wireless cards. Best bet would be to e-mail the hping mailing list for supported wireless cards.

Google Is Your Friend
As you can see here, hping do not have a 'help' mailing list. So, I recommend you ask on the security basics mailing list instead - that might get you somewhere.
Your second question - probably. Get the list of compatible wireless cards first.
Cheers,

Hmmm, I thought for sure there was a list somewhere or at very least a forum. In any event, you can email the developer directly and I'm sure he will tell you which cards are supported.
