If what has been suggested (checking for and removing malware) does not turn up any results, and you still want to do a Windows Repair, then you may need to take another approach.

First of all, have you tried what rider_royal said? You may have given admin privileges to another account which you now think is the admin account, but the password you are looking for is the one for the account called 'Administrator' (unless you have changed its name). Attempt a blank password and see if that works - many people forget to password-protect the original admin account.

If it doesn't, and you still can't remember it, then you may need to change the Administrator password. This can be accomplished by using a boot CD like ONTPRE - but please read the instructions and warnings associated with it before you use it. That will help you alter the Administrator password - and then go back into the Windows CD's repair and, if all goes well, you should be able to use the password you just set.

how far in are you going before you choose to repair ?

I'm asking because I only get asked for the admin pass when it's about to 'repair' / change the MBR or boot .........

have you allowed the CD to to ask if you wish to repair or install ?

    choose install

THEN it will ask if you wish to repair an existing setup OR install a fresh copy

    IIRC that is
been a couple of weeks since I used it
so now I'm in my SIXTIES FFS
WTAF, how did that happen, so no more alterations to the sig, it will remain as is now

As mentioned ive used Spybot, adware , cccleaner , avg aswell as defrag.

When i insert the CD room into the computer and it goes to windows repair , I press R (repair) and presented with which installation to repair ( I choose 1. and press enter since i only have 1 installation). Im then presented with a enter administrator password, Ive entered the password used for both profiles on the system , ive tried password ( then when its wrong leaving blank and clicking return as suggested by poster above.) but no luck. Basicly Its either I cant remember the password for administrator or something is corrupt.

I tried to insert new memory ( Bought 1GB or ram and inserted that into the motherboard so was running 1GB ram along with 256 Mb ram stick). With the new ram added I simply get a blue screen saying page fault in non paged error whether i run computer normaly, safe mode or any other way therefor I took out new ram and am using it in safe mode .

The diskette is turned off by windows because of lack of resources so I can't use a boot disk for a chkdsk/f.

Pretty much don't know what to do except take all files off computer and erase/fresh install.

Tried trendmicro but because of lack of resources it shuts down the browser when using trend micro housecall.

I think some people are getting confused in this thread.

He is asking how to reset the Administrator password that is created during the installation of XP - not the paswords for the accounts that are created after the install. 2 different things.
You can reset the password of any user accounts but the Admin account that is made during set up will still have the same password you gave it.

The way to reset this is to log in to a user account that has Administrator privilages, then go to your run prompt and type "control userpasswords2" in to it (without the ") then press enter.
In the window that opens up highlight the Administrator Account - this is the one that is created during set-up, then click "reset password". Enter a new pasword. Done!

Notice in the pop up window all your user accounts you have created will be listed , bute there will also be an account named Administrator. This is the account you are confusing with your user accounts.

You need to be logged into an account that had admin rights to do this however.

//I made a little video to show you this in more detail, see the attachment! View it with Windows Media Player in full screen mode!

//Also, someone may want to move this out of GCC!

Thus Ive typed in several passwords for the administrator, They don't seem to be correct.

My question is , is there a way to either go into windows and find out what the administrator password is or change it using user "B"?

    thanks
I'm reading it as he wants to repair
    BUT
he appears to be at the wrong section of the CD

    I said

    choose install
    he says
When i insert the CD room into the computer and it goes to windows repair , I press R (repair)
try starting the repair again, and do NOT choose repair at the first option list
    go for an install
THEN it will ask if you wish to repair or install

    NOW you choose to repair

as far as i remember, it does not require a password
but you WILL require your license key
so now I'm in my SIXTIES FFS
