SP2 Cracked eh ?
hi guys
I was having a conversation with someone and they explained to me that with MS there is a disclaimer that if you purchase a new motherboard you have to buy a new copy of windows? Sounds abit absured to me. Anyway if this is true, when I get my new MB how will i go about installing windows and doing microsoft updates. A cracked version someone mentioned. I have copied an original SP2 windows Proffessional and I use my own cd key i found about three years back. I cannot remember if I activated it. Will I just be able to install windows and update as normal or will I run into problems with updating off the website. Any help will be appreciated.

AFAIK
If you have to replace the Motherboard, CPU, Harddrive or video card....then you have to call MS for reactivation.....
No need to "Crack"
Now if you replace the whole machine...and you license is OEM...yes you have to buy a new OEM license with your new machine.

Or if this applies...
Stop being a thief and buy the software. Then you register and activiate it. I have made major config changes and required a fresh install and on all the occasions MS provided the information I required in a timely manner.
My appologies if they shipped your box without the software.
cheers

As Relyt has stated....
I have never had an issue with replacing failed hardware and reactivating.....yes I have had to call to do it......
No big deal

You will find it hard to use the microsoft update site to get updates with a wobbely copy of windows. IIRC you now have to download an activation tool that checks to see if your O/S is legit or not!
Unless you happen to have the updates on a CD of course
