linux installation
i've got a fedora core 7 dvd and i wanna install it on my pc for which i need to boot it with that dvd. the problem is that i don't have a dvd drive on my desktop. i've a laptop which have a dvd drive and i know how to connect to computers directly with a cross over cable. i also have that cross over cable with me. the problem is how to boot my desktop with the dvd drive on my laptop by connecting both of them with a cross over cable.
plz help

In short - it is impossible.
You can get an IDE cable that will allow you to slave your laptop's DVD drive from your PC.
I'm sure you could download a CD version of it?

A DVD player costs about $20, if not cheaper.

it should be possible to make a boot floppy. Failing that buy an internal dvd drive. Failing that buy an external dvd drive if you have to.
There should also be a way to make a boot menu.
If the world doesn't stop annoying me I will name my kids ";DROP DATABASE;" and get revenge.

Yeah I wouldnt even bother just get a replacement internal or get an external. Cant hurt to have an external floatin around.

Well, prices vary from place to place. The name 'aditya' sounds to be an Indian one and here in india, it is around $40.
Even though I have never done it, what are the possibilities of using the 'boot over network' option in the BIOS? Can that be useful?

To "boot over the network" could work. Not sure if the fedora install allows it though. Boot over the network is called PXE boot.
