Everyone on this forum gives things their best shot........... me, sometimes I take the "scenic route", but I usually get there in time to miss buying the first round of drinks

Few things you can also do is:
1) in Safe Mode do a SYSTEM RESTORE
2) Last Known Good Configuration http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307852
3) Windows Installer cleanup utility
