    Video camera issues

    Hi folks...wondered if anyone could suggest a solution here.

    I have a Sony DCR HC20E minidv camera.

    Laptop has no firewire connection and so will not talk with vista.

    The sony software is not compatible with vista and there appears to be no fix.

    I cannot do anything with it.

    Suggestions please.

    No firewire port on the Lappy?

    BUT the camera does have a USB port as well...

    How about a visit to http://www.nodevice.com/driver/DCR-HC20E/get39687.html and see if that can help... oops just realised that link is for a winxp driver... try it anyway..
    Be sure to create a restore point before starting the install..

    You have more options.. like setting up a Virtual machine - do a XP install and run the software in there...(works for me with some of my security tools)

    You don't need firewire to talk to Vista.

    A green plastic container with black wheels that resides outside your house?

    Simple solution? A PCMCIA firewire card?

    Then use software like Adobe premiere to load/edit your footage.

    Sony have some software that will work with Vista if you have a 32bit version.

    There is also USB software:

    64bit is not supported.

    EDIT:

    It seems that the USB streaming software will only work with Windows 2000 and XP so your options appear to be:

    1. Virtual machine or dual boot with a supported OS.
    2. Get an i.link (firewire) card as SirDice suggested.
    3. Use a different computer for the download.
