What do you guys do for side jobs and outside sources of income?
I'm sick of fixing random people's broken computers and then getting harassed for it for weeks afterwards. I'd rather do something web or networking related, but I'm not sure where to look.
I also do the random fixing which can bring in alot of money. The residential market is huge

I have been doing a fair bit of web development stuff for the last few months.
There are lots of people whom don't know nothing and will pay a decent penny for someone to come in and do the job for them.

I'm a cop
On the side I do forensics/data recovery, data destruction , and general fixit stuff. Most of my clients are friends/coworkers, but I'm trying to expand at the moment...

Out of curiosity, how much do you charge? I'm charging about $45/hr but I always end up spending a lot more time per job than one hour if you consider preparation before I get there and stuff, but I only get paid for an hour. Kinda frustrating.

I've had some success at this in the past, but I'm not really sure how market skills like that. Or anything actually. I kindof suck at marketing...

Hey Keezel,
This is a very hard subject as most of my mates and then people that I know in my area etc etc.
$45 = around R450 in South Africa and is quite heavy. I would go for R250 = $ 25 - 30 p/h. You will have to ask someone in the states or UK to give you a rough idea.
However I have learnt that you must charge everyone for your time because they will jsut walk all over you in the near future. As I said the residential market is crazy now as every home has internet / PC - so there is huge oppurtunity for the side line jobs. I will take my own advice and start charging accordingly.

This attachment outlines my rates for data destruction. It's on a postcard that I give out when folks ask about my rates. My contact info is on the other side.
