2 AM there ! .. Man .. I thought I was one of the few members who used to log in late !
Anyway It's a great desktop .. I am no where close to doing something like that on Linux (I typed you a long PM about my foray into linux starting today but for some reason I just closed the browser and stopped the VM installtion.. )
Your printscreen answers one of my question's .. Which version of Opensuse should i go for ? KDE or GNOME ..
Anyway you gave your printescreen the name "test" ..

Shoot me for this.. but it's fun to see what a print screen reveals..
JP you and me use the same AV, for ripping DVD's you may give a try to MagicDVD ripper, its way way better then what you've got there (is it an asus MB or Realtech audio card ?) ..
t34b4g5 has gone through (maybe) the trouble of cleaning all shortcuts / files to New folder and uses Avast ..
LOL no, Creative Labs Audigy. I only got that DVD Ripper because some of the early TV show DVDs I own don't have continuous play, like the later ones do. It stops after every episode and you have to select the next one and press play. Kind of a nuisance. But I never actually got around to doing anything about it.
Yeah, Kaspersky dovetails very nicely with my e-mail program. I actually liked the interface from version 7 better, but what can you do....

It's PM
For OpenSUSE versions, that's Honestly just a matter of taste. Gnome or KDE is just flavor more so than technical. I generally grab either one, install, and then once I'm done, if I installed KDE for example, I'll install Gnome.
If you want my Honest opinion though, grab the Gnome version, install it, and then, after the installation is complete, install KDE, and then you can have both. The other way around with KDE first is actually a little different because Gnome is a pain in the ass and a half to get installed from anything but a default install.
I started a few times with KDE and wanted to have the option to use Gnome too, and after getting the base packages, it doesn't always automatically add in the rest for you, so I ended up with no tool bar, lol.
But again, this is ALL just a matter of taste, because they can both do the same thing.
I also install these:
FVWM / FVWM2
Enlightenment
Window Maker
I use all those. Depending on how I want to do something, or how I want my desktop to look that day, I log out, log back in, just choosing a different Window Manager, and use it. It's kind of nice being able to pick each time.
I had a lot of screen shots of my desktops in the old thread where people posted their desktops, and I had everything from Enlightenment on my laptop, and Window Maker, to the Window Maker I had on the desktop, and all were different.
I'll post some more so you can see what I mean lol.
Here is Window Maker as it looked on a desktop from a few years ago, I think this was SUSE 8.2 Professional, but I'm not sure.
Gore.. Trust me dude.. from everything you've said in your post above i can't do much except download opensuse, install it on a VM and then try and play around.. Trust me two days back when i tried I was having problem installing Opera (since Fire****s comes by default) I had "error" during that too .. *I deleted the VM post that* ..
anyway like i said i'm still gonna give linux a spin.. I have got few months before my education kicks back in..
