We installed a few wireless security cameras around our office about a year ago. Recently someone mentioned to me that they were a security risk. I wasn't aware of such a risk but it makes sense as you can view the cameras remotely. After looking into it I found a fairly substantial amount of information supporting this. One of the scariest I found was this post about security cameras. Does anyone have any real experience with this type of breach of security? I don't just want to start pulling cameras out and replacing them with wired cameras if there is a way to secure the wireless ones better.

Common Hacking Methods:

Phishing: Attackers may trick users into logging into a fake website with their credentials.
Exploiting Vulnerabilities: Hackers can exploit weaknesses in the camera's software to gain access.
Guessing Passwords: If a weak or default password is used, attackers can easily gain access.
Eavesdropping: In some cases, hackers can eavesdrop on the camera's transmissions by capturing electromagnetic radiation from the device.

The issue with her old system is likely outdated 3G hardware and mechanical fatigue in the door contacts. For a duplex, you really want a system with encrypted sensors to prevent signal bypass.

I consulted with ARCO Lock & Security on a similar budget-friendly setup that uses a local NVR for video history so there's no forced cloud subscription. It?s much more reliable to have high-torque deadbolts paired with real-time entry logs than to rely on an aging system that was designed back in 2017.
