I recently found an exploit which apparently allows access to the encrypted passwd file of a unix system via. a buffer overflow on older versions of ftpd. It says to look for the "core dump" after the session with ftpd has crashed for the encrypted passwd. What is the core dump and how does one view it in Unix and/or Windows? I realize that perhaps this is a rather foolish question for most but I am still in the learning phase and I am tying to amass as much information as possible. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
