ShagDevil.... if it seemed that I said turn to religion before suicide.. I'll say turn to anything before suicide.
As for the aggression towards certain religions (I.E. atheism) that isn't at all what I was getting at. I know that there are many people who suffer from depression who aren't atheist, and I also realize many atheists aren't suffering from depression. I was not indicating that atheism leads to depression. If that's how it came out to you, I apologize. My statement was meant to mean more along the lines of.. depressed people tend to lack faith (you call yourself a catholic, but are you a practising catholic or were you just baptized catholic, and decide that because of that, you can call yourself catholic)... I was raised catholic, the whole church thing, first communion, no meat on Good Friday.. yada yada yada.. I found when I started slipping in and out of my depression, I lost my faith, and that was what lead to atheism. So more properly my statement would have been depression leads to atheism rather than the other way around. Once again, i realize you said you were catholic, but I have to ask how good of a catholic you were. And i'm not going based on studies here, I'm going based on first had experience. As for the medication, again that's first hand experience, I've seen many, many people put on the drugs and 99 times out of 100 the results are the same. They worked for you, and that's great, but most of the time they won't work, or a person will go threw many combinations, with varied results before they find a combination that works, and the experience in between will be worse than anything the depression brings on. I've seen people on Paxil, and heard many people who have been on Paxil speak, and they always say the same thing, sure it helped me control myself, but that's because I was dead to the world. I honestly could care less what clinical studies show, because studies are like statistics, you can make them prove anything. I'm glad that it worked for you, but most people aren't that luckily.
