US must drop Internet gambling ban

THE World Trade Organisations (WTO) has told the US to dump its ban on offshore Internet gambling.

Currently the US does not allow its citizens to place bets in those nasty foreign online casinos and the tiny Caribbean nation of Antigua and Barbuda, was so miffed at this that they appealed to the WTO. They say the ban represented an unfair trade barrier.

The US said that it would contest the ruling before WTO's seven-member appeals body. They say that the Uruguay Round of global trade talks, which created the WTO in 1995, clearly intended to exclude gambling.

Antigua says that restrictions that barred US residents from betting at offshore casinos was harming the country's efforts to diversify its economy. According to Associated Press, online casinos employ some 3,000 of the 67,000 residents of Antigua.

personally i dont have any feelings at all about online gambling. i've gambled but never on line.

But i do have feelings about the WTO telling the US we must allow it. how do you feel?
