Say I were to write you a program that were to do what you think (it would not be difficult, they are already out there on the internet and I have written loads of automation scripts as have many on this site) it would put a sudden and sustained demand on the host system? That would stand out and would ALMOST CERTAINLY be interpreted as an attack.

The mere fact that you use broadband disguises or does nothing. A lot depends on the speed of the responding site...................................and a monitoring system is looking for number of connections from a location? not their speed.
