Hi all,
SUSE 10.1 came out yesterday. If you haven't already downloaded it, I'll make it easy for you (Well, easier). If you're using Linux and don't want to use bit torrent, just do this:

Copy and paste the following into a text file:

http://download.opensuse.org/distrib...on-oss/MD5SUMS
http://download.opensuse.org/distrib...don-Biarch.iso
http://download.opensuse.org/distrib....1/iso/MD5SUMS
http://download.opensuse.org/distrib...M-i386-CD1.iso
http://download.opensuse.org/distrib...M-i386-CD2.iso
http://download.opensuse.org/distrib...M-i386-CD3.iso
http://download.opensuse.org/distrib...M-i386-CD4.iso
http://download.opensuse.org/distrib...M-i386-CD5.iso

Name the file suse_download
do mkdir suse (in your home directory)
mv suse_download suse

cd suse
wget -i suse_download

(This will use the wget tool to automatically download the 6 installation cds and their md5sums into the suse directory in your home directory. The advantage to this is that the downloads are done without you having to click on another link when each download is done.)

The above links are for the 32 bit Intel x86 architecture.

If you're using something else here is the direct link to the download page.

The "non-oss" links are for non-open souce software (Flash, Adobe Reader, Real Player, etc.). You can install SUSE with the other 5 cds. This cd is necessary only if you want to install the non-open source stuff already mentioned.

This isn't meant to be an installation tutorial, just some things to be aware of.

1)Toward the beginning of the installation if you want to install the non-oss software, there will be a screen which will allow you to insert the non-oss cd and select the option to install from it. Here is one place I think the insta. llation could be better. It's easy to miss. Please read each screen carefully.

2) With all of the other Linux installations I have done, you don't reboot until the end of the installation. With SUSE you will reboot after installing cd1 and the non-oss cd. Don't let this throw you.
3) ReiserFS did not work for me. I tried with three installation attempts to use reiserfs, but got an error message and a failed installation each time. It may work for you. Just be prepared. If you do have this problem, a workaround, might be to use ext3 or XFS instead.
4) Towards the end of the installation, you will have a chance to set up regular (non-root) user accounts. To set up more than one, you will need to click on the "user management" tab. If you forget, you can find a user management option in YAST later on.
5) If you're using a scanner you might need to use the hardware module in YAST to set it up after the installation
