I think the kid was in the wrong.
What would you guys think if at a later date it was proven that
some nutcase made a bomb my material the kid had posted on his site,
and then went and blew some innocent ppl up?
The kid busted the law and got caught out, his mistake.

The manner in which he was arrested was way over the top though.

    Quote:

"People can rant and rave on the Internet all they want, but when they cross the line of calling people to action to violently overthrow the Constitution of the United States, they have a problem," said McLaughlin.

The kid deserves whatever the law is gonna throw at him.

What he did was wrong. But, the G-Men went a little overboard in this one. They tried to make a point to strongly. I hope the government does,nt try to turn us into a police state. Good grief................Throw down the mouse and step away from the computer!!!!!!!!!!!

The FBI should not have been involved.
A team of heavily armed shrinks should have broken down his door.

either you didnt think this all the way through or you are incredibly nieve. right now, at this second i could easily build a bomb. how, you ask? through some web-browsing i have done? by learning from some evil terrorist? the answers to the last 2 are no and no. using even the most rudementry understanding of chemistry, or even about 5 mins reading through the proper sections of a chem book, one can easily make black powder(gun powder, same thing basically).

and dont think its really that hard either. a few years a go me and some of my crazy friends made a "potatoe cannon" which used the black powder. after getting the materials it would take us about 30 seconds to mix up a batch, then 5 or so mins to create the charge we put in the tubing(basically it was a section of pvc piping caped at one end, then with the other end sealed with a hot glue gun, but leaving the end of the ignitor(we used the things used to set off model rockets) sticking through)

net time from decision to use it to actual firing: about 20 mins. and here we are talking about explosives of high enough yeald that it is federaly out-lawed. merely procure a larger ammoung of the necissary chemicals, mix them all together, ignite and BOOM, instant crater.

also, if you guys think that nut-job's get all their info from the net you guys have problems. most of the people who are crazy enough to make bigger bombs to use against people are also smart enough to go to a more reliable source than the internet.

    Freedom...to do everything?

What starts with a good cause allways attracts people that will go around and spoil it all the way!!! Same was with Internet-great idea, but lots of people realized that it also can be used to do evil. Internet is just a mirror reflection of our REAL life, so some deeds should be punished according to local justice.<Please don't post me negative antipoints 4 that >
Although the tendency of Globalization worries me a lot!!! Do present countries have to be destroyed by sepparation to build up the GLOBAL CAPITAL!!!!????

Anyone who posts info on bomb making on their site deserves the law after them, cos thats what the law is for, to stop idiots doing idiotic things.

There is a difference between posting information for public disclosure, and encouraging people to use that information. If you notice, most hacking sights always post that "Use this for educational purposes only" crap. That keeps it legal. Well, this kid was promoting the use of what he posted. If I say "here, have a gun and go kill people," then I hand you a loaded gun, there is something wrong with that. The kid was providing plans on how to make weapons, then encouraging people to use them. That is by far the wrong approach to use. I agree that there is a freadom of speach issue involved, but there is still something wrong with his approach.

btw. 8*B@LL, I have seen cases where nut-jobs get their information from the internet. Remember the Columbine High School incident.....

I agree that the FBI defiately went overboard though. They have a tendency to do that. As far back as Steve Jackson Games, they have blown everything out of proportion. But I have seen "hackers" that were always armed, so....

How about bombs? It did say he was distributing bomb making information. Just because the guy uses a computer doesn't mean he harmless. That's very naive.

i think you kinda missed my point. what i was trying to get at was that anybody who has taken Highschool chem can eaisly create a relitivly large explosive fairly easily...

there is absolutly no reason to believe that they got their info off the net. the net connection with them was a sight that they ran which contained such information. they could have gotten it from a chem book from a class they were taking.

i must say that i agree here. the problem here is that he was saying "use it", not that the content he had. i have just been replying to people's "knee-jerk" reaction of saying "OMFG! HE TOLD PEOPLE HOW TO MAKE BOMBS! BURN HIM AT THE STAKE!" the truth is that any average HS student has access to more than enough info to put together bombs.
