All OSs are almost same, but about programming language i suggest you to start with Visual Basic.

Yeah VB is good to start w/, I'd go w/ Perl though.

Perl is nice a little more support online
and maybey even more practical than vb

Yeah C is definately the way to go, but not the easiest fer starters. I started w/ C and Pascal and I had some problems in the beginning, makes learning other stuff later on a lot easier though.

About the OS, I started off with Windows XP, but as soon as I can get it installed, I'm going to use Mandrake Linux. It's supposed to be one of the most newbie friendly Linux distro's. Mandrake Linux is my recommendation for you.
