Limited number of images in posts
At the moment, there is a limit on the number of images that can be present in your post. However, if you're typing a long post and want to use more than about 3 smilies, you are told that your post contains too many images and you'll have to edit it.
Two suggestions of things I'd like to see to help aleviate this:
1. A link taking us back to our post with all the text retained, because the 'back' button doesn't always work and can sometimes lose what you've typed.
2. Exclude smilies from the image count, and instead have a separate check for them, e.g. no more than 5 smilies and/or 2 images in each post.
What does everyone else think?

You have included too many images in your signature or in your previous post. Please go back and correct the problem and then continue again.
Images include use of smilies, the vB code [img] tag and HTML <img> tags. The use of these is all subject to them being enabled by the administrator.
I've had the same problem a couple of times: you're right about the back-button (that's why I always write my posts in a text-editor before pasting them to the AO-window...). Guess JP implied this rule after seeing all those posts that looked like cartoon movies...
I don't mind about that rule though. As long as there's no limit on regular tags, it's ok for me

I think the number of allowed smilies should be relative to the lenght of the text. Eg. your post is 660 characters, I think it could have 3 smilies. So 1 smiley / 220 characters would IMHO be quite good formula.
Q: Why do computer scientists confuse Christmas and Halloween?
A: Because Oct 31 = Dec 25

Excellent idea, a longer post requires more images than a short one. I prefer to round everything though, so 1 smiley per 200 characters instead.

I think JP once posted that the losing of text isn't the site, its your browser....
or I could just be halucinating again...

It is, as far as I know, down to your browser, but it wouldn't be too difficult to have a small link that took you back to your posting box so you could correct it.

Doesn't sound too extravagant to me.

Greetings All:
I'm going to keep the image limit as is. Neg is right, things were getting out of hand. There's really no need for 50,000,000 images/smilies per post anyway.
As for the back button "problem". That is TOTALLY up to your browser, the way it caches things in memory, etc. etc. Nothing I can do about that.
Thanks for the suggestions though!
