There was an article in our local paper this past week about some guy that commited suicide while playing Evercrack.

Of course it's the games fault, or the monitors fault, or the bands fault...never mind the fact that they were depressed, suicidal or had a sudden onslaught of epilepsy (it happens, just ask my best friend). So much easier to place the blame on the game and not look deeper for the true cause.

What about these kids that drop dead of a heart attack while playing varsity football or basketball? Not once have I heard the ball getting blamed. It's the same thing, you can't blame a video game if somebody had addictive tendencies coupled with health problems or suicidal motivations.

on the booklet of operation flashpoint there is a warning that says the game may cause seizures for certain people. what's the difference between that and looknig at the TV for hours upon hours?

I used to work at an gaming place kids would play for 8 hours a day 6 days a week and i was allways one of them

i did a little bit of snooping and the news paper who reported this is state owned, china would love an excuse to D2 a major sign of western civilization from being imported

Maybe someone's already said this, but I don't really want to read the whole topic...
DarkGuardian, you are a moron. (no offense intended - hehehe) I really hate to say it, but you should know that anything with flashing lights can cause epileptic seizures - i.e. all computer games, all television shows, traffic lights, emergency services, etc.
Therefore there is no way that every seizure causing thing out there will be taken off the market.
Sorry to do this, but I feel it has to be said (might just be the fact I'm having a bad day, but... meh.)

Differenc between an interlaced screen and non-interlaced screen. Put simple your TV (interlaced) draws every other line per clock tick (for lack of a better term) and your PC (non-interlaced) draws the entire screen per clock tick. So, at a low refresh rate your eytes may not catch the flash of the screen but it does register in your brain.

Anyway, it's been a long time since I studied all that stuff so forgive me if it's not completely correct, but that is the jist of it.

BTW- Too much exposure to TV can have the same effect, but you really need to be sensitive to it.
