I take it you mean IP address...
Proxy is the easiest way, just use a proxy.

Do you mean IP address or computer name? Well you could spoof your IP address but I doubt many people take that option simply because of the complexity. Jethro is right, just use a proxy, unless you want to spend a lot of time trying to modify your computer.

Are you trying to hide your name on a LAN or from the outside Internet? Also, what is your setup?

From the internet. Setup win98se if thats what you mean and using
a dialup. Hope thats sufficient. Does it matter if i'm on LAN
or internet. The methods used must be the same i think. I can be wrong.
Any help maverick.?

I thinks it is enough to just hide your IP from where you are visiting on the Internet, your computer name won't be logged anywhere ( I guess ).
Maverick811 means that are you going to hide your IP from other clients on the LAN or from Internet.

So staying anonymous can be done only with a proxy and the name
wont be logged?.

Yes , but you should check your proxy to ensure that it doesn't suck ( show your real IP ).
for checking the proxies just search the google or AO forums for that.
BTW, do not forget "proxomitron" ( http://207.87.52.60/ )

If you just wanted to avoid proxies, you could use a firewall/router that performed NAT, leaving you with a private internal address (or a seperate public address) and a public external address. If you are more concerned with anonymizing where you are coming from, then there are various proxy servers around that would allow you to bounce traffic off of them.
I haven't personally tried these, but a search on google returned a few publically accessible proxy servers, the first one in the search was the following:

Suggest trying to find a read as much as you can on NAT and Proxy.

There is only one constant, one universal, it is the only real truth: causality. Action. Reaction. Cause and effect...There is no escape from it, we are forever slaves to it. Our only hope, our only peace is to understand it, to understand the 'why'. 'Why' is what separates us from them, you from me. 'Why' is the only real social power, without it you are powerless.
