just a quick thought on public profiling and the tools used (i had this thought in another thread, and got some antipoints for it, so I thought a new thread would be interesting).

Some of the tools i use include:

Samspade
-great for whois info and traceroutes
Webferrett
-compiles a list of most of the search engines information
Netcraft
-whats that site running???
Google
-what more can i say - google rocks!
Arin
-netblock ids...etc

Gives me enough information about what information is publicly available about my clients (suprises most of them).

seriously - netcraft has all kinds of goodies. What flavor of webserver you have (os and version) ip address, sometimes where it is colocated. What else do ya need?

man i got flamed hard core for this thread (by some). I was more interested in initiating a discussion on particular tools that you folks like to use when you do some public profiling. I got flamed for this being in FAQs??? although i read through the public profiling section and it was more conceptual than dealing with specifics. I just wanted a chance to explain the thread, cause those that gave me neg antipoints didnt include their username.
