The pop up can be disabled in many ways. The best way is to use a browser that doesnt support java script. or get a pop up blocker. IOt was tried before and was removed by JP after about 2 weeks. Lets hope the same happens this time

I said it before, during the last popup era... Just have a small javascript alert: "Do you want to open a window to the free Antionline Chat channel?" and then "Yes/No" buttons...

Or, there should have to be a button on the actual applet itself, whether you want to log onto the IRC network.
Many guests don't even know that they have signed in.

A simple cookie to remember if you want to have the irc applet popup would be fine by me...

Well left IRC years ago as well as most chat programs Opera seems to take care of stuff. Point to ponder is then why use IE? Anyway chat should be an option sort of like if I want to answer my phone or not. Promt for scripting works in IE but it will not tell you what site the script is from, but at least to use the phone as an example let the phone ring not let someone pick up the phone and have people talking on the other end.

The only reason I keep IE is for Microsoft-sponsored sites (hotmail.com. microsoft knowledge base) and for the occasional third-party page with crappy handling for standards.
