I am relatively new here too ( although I did lurk for some time )and someone gave me some good advice a little while ago, persevere and you will be OK.

There are many great people here who are more than willing to help you, and like you I have said things that have got me a kick in the tail, but on the whole people have been very supportive.

I like it here because it is a community of like-minded people from all over the world (computers/security etc) but whose opinions on various subjects vary, which makes for some interesting reading and learning.
