Me Weird
Now Debwalin said I am weird, and I don't deny it. However I am not so weird that I am afraid of needles yet I get a tatoo, that weirdness award goes to Papagrande

AB Monkey Negative here.
I give blood as often as I remember, and i'm also a plasma donor.
It's good to see just how many people donate blood, and equally good to see just how many would if they could. As for the animals comment, does that mean i can lick my own ass in public too? (Animals do)
just my 10c/p

The worse experience was, when I had a request to donate bone merrow to a cancer patient. I don't know if I had a bad experience as when you leave after donating blood and your whole arm bruises, but when I donated marrow. It was the most painful experience, and I just didn't feel right after that experience. The thing is I didn't even know the person, my Doctor requested that I do so, and to be honest. I thought it was the right thing to do. I may be hesitant if the request comes up again, but to be honest. I would probably do it. I would hope someone would do the same for me.
Papagrande,
Tattoo's are indeed addictive. I know so many people who have an addiction to tattoos, but if you mention needles. It is like they are going to cry like a 5 y/o.

Is it better to eat before? I'm only recently able to donate and haven't done it yet.

I donate blood often and have also joined the BONE MARROW DONOR REGISTRY here in Australia.
It was a 5 minute test just as they do for blood type testing..5 small vials of blood is takin while you donate your regular blood and a record of your marrow is kept on file for any person who has Luekemia. When a match is made they call you in for 1 day in hospital (All expenses paid) for small procedure..(blood transfer).
If you can save a person while your alive..It makes a differance!!

CrankyGirl,
If you do not eat before you go, 1 of two things may happen. You iron count may be low, and you will not be able to donate, or you may pass out. Always eat something healthy before you go, and try to drink alot of water before you go.

Just wanna say THANK YOU to everyone who's donated. Coupla years ago I had a transient blood disorder and had to have transfusions of various blood products, so I am very appreciative.

I try to make sure that I donate on a reguar basis. I get calls and reminders in the mail all the time. I am O-, so according to the previous posts, you can understand why they might be after me. I have donated blood since high school, and lately, my job has been conducting blood drives every 60 days or so. I wasn't able to give for a bit due to some major surgery I had done on two occasions in the last year and a half, but since the last hospital visit, I have already donated even though it was just this past May that I had the surgery again. I donated against the advice of everyone around me, of course. I had the Red Cross clear it so I could. Since we are sharing stories...surprisingly enough, the CEO of the company for which I work sent me an admirational email about how he was so inspired by my gesture. I just told him the truth; I felt compelled to donate since blood is so precious and necessary (especially O- from what they have been telling me all these years). You never know; you may be the one on the operating table one day in need of a few units of blood. So, that said, I will give blood until I no longer can.
Peace good people.
